KUCHIPUDI          

Kuchipudi is a Classical Indian dance from Andhra Pradesh, India. It is also popular all over South India. Kuchipudi is the name of a village in the Divi Taluka of Krishna district that borders the Bay of Bengal and also the surname of the resident Brahmins practicing this traditional dance form, it acquired the present name.

 

 MAKE-UP AND COSTUMES:

A Kuchipudi dance costumes is a blouse with the Saree which could be anything from Kanchipuram Silk Saree to Dharmavaram Silk Saree or Semi Silk Saree The dance dress are made of superior quality fabric and material, usually China silk material, which are integrated with beautiful artistic work and techniques. Dance Costumes are designed with beautiful pallu in front of the costume. The Kuchipudi Dance Dress color is mostly white with two-line golden borders and patterns rounded off by enchanting zari work set up in diverse colors. This is further enhanced by a long pleat in the centre with a border and a back katcham.

Make up is applied in such a way that it brings out every facial feature on stage. The makeup used in this dance is not so heavy. The items that are required in this dance form are:

The dance is accompanied by song which is typically Carnatic music. The songs in Kuchipudi are mimed with alluring expressions, swift looks and fleeting emotions evoking the rasa.

 HISTORY:

Kuchipudi is one such unique form of Art which is the tasteful blend of grace and vigour, elevation and sensuality, of control and abandon. With its roots buried in the soil of Andhra Pradesh in India, Kuchipudi was born in a remote Village from which it derived its name. In the early days, the Kuchipudi style of dance was in the form of dance dramas, the main purpose being to inculcate divine ecstasy which invokes immortal bliss and brings one closer to the path of salvation .
